Davidson French Bulldogs’ puppies undergo thorough health screening before leaving our home.  Our puppies come with six free weeks or health care insurance. They are veterinarian checked, de-wormed, vaccinated and micro chipped at eight weeks of age. I choose to keep them for an additional week or two to make sure there are no adverse reactions to the vaccination.

Varied congenital abnormalities of the vertebrae are seen in short backed screw tailed breeds such as English Bulldogs, Boston Terriers and French Bulldogs. These abnormalities are more commonly seen affecting the thoracic (chest) vertebrae and generally do not result in any spinal cord problems in later life.  The defects in the lumbar area where there is a definite kinking or twisting on the spine are much more likely to have detrimental effects on the caudal spinal cord (near the tail or hind parts).
All of our adult dogs have been x-rayed and cleared for breeding by a veterinarian as well as a radiologist. French Bulldogs are prone to back issues but by screening the adults we are able to lessen the odds of the puppies having future problems.

All of our adult dogs are OFA Eye Certified. Many diseases and disorders with the eyes have a genetic factor. A veterinary ophthalmologist sends their exam results to The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, clearing the dog of inherited ocular conditions that could have otherwise been passed down to puppies if gone unchecked.

Because of their altered facial construction, French Bulldogs have brachycephalic respiratory syndrome to some degree. Most do just fine, and we closely monitor any increase or change in the puppy’s respiratory sounds.  Like all brachycephalic (having a short, broad head) breeds,  they often don’t pant efficiently and can easily become overheated.  They do most of their sweating through the pads on their feet and enjoy stretching out on cool floors.

Their eye sockets are shallow, which makes the eyes more pronounced and adorable but can increase the risk of having an eye pop out of the socket in the event of a head injury.  Harnesses rather than collars for walking are a very good idea. It is best to avoid anything around the neck that can increase cerebral pressure or pressure in the eyes.

These dogs do require some knowledge and skill to keep them optimally healthy, with an excellent quality of life. Because they are very intelligent pets and full of personality, most owners would not consider any other breed.

Our French Bulldog puppies come with a 1-year health guarantee which will be shown to you before any deposits being placed on reserving your puppy.
